Other Initiatives
Kansas City is the most recent of several Community Healthcare Initiatives undertaken by the Big Three auto companies and the United Auto Workers.
- Anderson, IN (1995)
The community established two referral-based asthma clinics to enhance patient education and monitoring of asthma in the community using the National Institutes of Health guidelines for asthma treatment. In addition, physician leaders are reviewing data on hysterectomy rates and are developing patient and physician educational materials to reduce the number of inappropriate hysterectomies. - Flint, MI (1995)
The community established a clinical workgroup focused on improving cardiac care in the community. The workgroup has developed quality-monitoring techniques and has sought to disseminate clinical guidelines on diagnostic cardiac catheterization. In addition, the task force has worked to educate physicians about appropriate treatment guidelines for H. pylori, and is fielding a patient survey to identify the effects of these improved treatment patterns. - Warren/Youngstown, OH (1998)

The community established a “community foundation.” This group raised funds from several sources to support 12 grants aimed at healthy lifestyles initiatives. In addition, a physician group is involved with a number of initiatives, including beginning a process of outcomes monitoring and encouraging more effective and efficient prescribing patterns. - Wilmington, DE (1998)
