Kansas City Area
Community Healthcare Initiative

Projects

The release of the Community Health Assessment in May 2000 will result in the identification of several projects on which groups can work collaboratively.

Prior to the release of the health assessment, the Initiative organizers worked collaboratively with several health care providers on an H. Pylori project.

H. Pylori Project

H. pylori is responsible for most instances of peptic ulcer diseases. The purpose of the project is to identify treatment protocols that can result in better treatment and lower costs.

Project Description

  • Improve quality of care and life for all H. pylori patients in the community by increasing the use of best practice
  • Determine protocol driven cure rate of H. pylori and symptom improvement
  • Determine effect of H. pylori therapy — compare symptoms, TX needs, and daily activities including work
  • Increase screening and the use of appropriate therapy for H. pylori
  • Conduct an initial focused project to build on the theme of a community based collaboration to learn the best process to conduct a broad based clinical project
  • Create a foundation for future success in similar community projects

Hypothesis

  • The frequency that H. pylori patients with ulcer symptoms are receiving best practice based care can be improved — increase the number of patients that are receiving the best diagnostic and treatment regimen
  • Eradication of H. pylori can cease/ reduce symptoms in 15 to 25% of patients with dyspepsia
